THE SHAME OF A FLIRTATIOUS WIFE

Proverbs 12:4 – A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.

New Living Translation – A worthy wife is a crown for her husband, but a disgraceful woman is like cancer in his bones.

English Standard Version – An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones.

When it comes to finding a mate, it’s natural to flirt with the man you wish to be your future husband. It is also important to continue to maintain this sexual behavior of seduction in your marriage. Every marriage needs a bit of playful romance!

God has never looked favorably upon sexual seduction and flirtation outside of one’s marriage.

Isaiah 3:16-17 – The Lord says,

    “The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips,with ornaments jingling on their ankles.

17 Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the Lord will make their scalps bald.”

It is shameful  to see wives acting flirtatious and having a general sexual attitude of seduction and flirtation towards men who are not her husband. This is a most shameful thing and it is a sin.

Proverbs 5:3-6 – For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;

4 but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword.

5 Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.

6 She gives no thought to the way of life; her paths wander aimlessly, but she does not know it.

Some flirtatious wives claim that their husbands have no problem with them flirting with other men. This is like claiming that your husband has no problem with murder; it does not make murder correct or lawful. A wife who flirts with strange men is also causing that man to sin, by engaging in this type of behavior with another man’s wife.

Matthew 5:28 – But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Hebrews 13:4 – Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

This scripture clearly states that everyone, whether single or married, must honor the institution of marriage. This means that whether it is your marriage or someone else’s, the matrimony must be honored regardless. Therefore, even if you are single, you must not seduce or flirt with a married individual since you are not honoring their marriage vow. Any such actions are considered sexual immorality and God will judge the sexually immoral.

Proverbs 22:14 – The mouth of an adulterous woman is a deep pit; a man who is under the Lord’s wrath falls into it.

The mouth and lips of an adulterous woman are filled with flirtation. Adultery begins with flirtation and ends in spiritual death.

Proverbs 6:24-25 – to preserve you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress.

25 Do not desire her beauty in your heart, and do not let her capture you with her eyelashes;

Adultery first begins with a general attitude of seduction and flirtation directed outside of one’s marriage. This is generally achieved through flirting, wearing seductive, immodest clothing, and an overall unhealthy focus on one’s own outward appearance, directed towards gaining attention. Women of God are not meant to focus on their outward appearance, but rather their inner spiritual beauty.

1 Timothy 2:9-10 – And I want women to be modest in their appearance.a They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 10For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.

1 Peter 3:1-6 – Wives, in the same way, submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, 2 when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 5 For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, 6 like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

Flirting and seducing strange men outside of your marriage is evil in the eyes of the Lord.

Proverbs 11:22 – Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman who shows no discretion.

Discretion definition: the freedom to decide what should be done in a particular situation; the quality of having or showing discernment or good judgment, the quality of being discreet; the quality of behaving in a quiet and controlled way without drawing attention to yourself.

Proverbs 11:22 is saying that a beautiful woman whose speech, manner of dress and behavior is directed towards gaining attention, is like a pig with a gold ring in its snout. She was meant to be beautiful, but has become something that actually looks unattractive, disgusting and shameful.

Proverbs 9:13 – The woman Folly is loud; she is seductive and knows nothing.

Aramaic Bible in Plain English – A woman deficient in mind is alluring and she knows no shame.

Douay-Rheims Bible – A foolish woman and clamorous, and full of allurements, and knowing nothing at all,

Brenton Septuagint Translation – A foolish and bold woman, who knows not modesty, comes to want a morsel.

Let’s take a look at the characteristics of a flirtatious woman.

Proverbs 7:5-27 – to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words. This is a woman who is flirtatious.

6 For at the window of my house I have looked out through my lattice,

7 and I have seen among the simple, I have perceived among the youths, a young man lacking sense,

Only a man with no sense would engage with another man’s flirtatious wife.

8 passing along the street near her corner, taking the road to her house

9 in the twilight, in the evening, at the time of night and darkness.

10 And behold, the woman meets him, dressed as a prostitute, wily of heart.

Meaning she is dressed immodestly to gain attention. She learns how to manipulate other men through seduction.

Wily definition: clever at achieving what they want; skilled at gaining an advantage, especially deceitfully. Manipulative, crafty, cunning.

11 She is loud and wayward; her feet do not stay at home;

She is not submissive to her husband and she always wants to be out so that she can gain the attention of others.

12 now in the street, now in the market, and at every corner she lies in wait.

13 She seizes him and kisses him, and with bold face she says to him,

14 “I had to offer sacrifices, and today I have paid my vows;

15 so now I have come out to meet you, to seek you eagerly, and I have found you.

16 I have spread my couch with coverings, colored linens from Egyptian linen;

17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 Come, let us take our fill of love till morning; let us delight ourselves with love.

19 For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey;

20 he took a bag of money with him; at full moon he will come home.”

21 With much seductive speech she persuades him; with her smooth talk she compels him.

Once again speaking of seductive speech and flirtatious words.

22 All at once he follows her, as an ox goes to the slaughter,or as a stag is caught fast

23 till an arrow pierces its liver; as a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life.

Flirting with another man’s wife, which includes a divorced woman, is spiritual death.

24 And now, O sons, listen to me, and be attentive to the words of my mouth.

25 Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her paths,

26 for many a victim has she laid low, and all her slain are a mighty throng.

27 Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

A woman who is flirtatious and seductive outside of her marriage is doomed for spiritual death. The bible tells women not to act in this fashion. This also applies to any man, married or single, who engages in such behavior with another man’s wife or a divorced woman.

1 Peter 4:3 – For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.

Romans 13:13-14 – Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

Galatians 5:19-21 – The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

A Godly woman is not meant to act in this flirtatious fashion with other men. This type of sexual behavior should only be reserved for her husband.

1 Timothy 3:11 – In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

A woman of God should be concerned with the appearance of her inner beauty and not her outward appearance.

Proverbs 31:30 – Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

Proverbs 31:25 – She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

The Biblical Definition Of A Godly Wife

Proverbs 31:10-31

10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.

11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.

12 She brings him good, not harm,  all the days of her life.

13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands.

14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar.

15 She gets up while it is still night;  she provides food for her family  and portions for her female servants.

16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.

18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night.

19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.

21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes.

25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

29 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”

30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.

31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
